Jozy Altidore has been the Americans’ best striker for years and is in good form, while Clint Dempsey has been the team’s star. But when Arena sent the team out, neither was on the field. Instead, Bobby Wood was left to take on the duties up top and, while he didn’t really get any great shots off, he did a ton of work up top. He was isolated at times and nothing was ever easy, but he flew all over the place, worked his behind off, took some punishment and provided outlets for his teammates when they needed it. Wood didn’t have a particularly sexy game, but he put in a real shift for the team and did some of the dirty work that the Americans needed.
