The Mavericks continued their hot summer league play, remaining undefeated in both the Orlando Summer League and Las Vegas Summer League. Dallas jumped out to a huge lead, but the Phoenix Suns managed to trim the lead and make it somewhat close down the stretch, before the Mavericks ultimately pulled away.
Dennis Smith, Jr. continues to impress
Smith was aggressive early, attacking the rim and finishing around contact. He was in the paint whenever he wanted to, especially when bigs switched on him. After a poor shooting performance Saturday, Smith seemed to have his feet under him going 8-of-15 from the field and 3-of 5 from three today. Smith was also aggressive getting to the line earning nine free throw attempts. Smith threw up a cool 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and one monster block in his second summer league game.
It was fun to watch a much more comfortable and confident Smith play. There were a few dunk attempts where Smith intended to absolutely embarrass the defender trying to block his shot. He hasn’t connected on a jaw-dropping hammer yet, but it’s coming soon.
However, Smith struggled to take care of the ball compared to Saturday. His five turnovers aren’t concerning, yet. It will definitely be something to watch as he
