Tennessee’s torturous coaching search may come to an end, and a member of the Alabama coaching staff has the power to put a stop to it, according to reports.
Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt has been offered the job, ESPN’s Chris Low and Jimmy Hyams of WNML in Knoxville reported on Twitter. Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman and ESPN’s Mark Schlabach said a deal could be announced as early as Thursday.
Hyams revealed that a potential snag in the negotiations is the potential availability of Pruitt coaching in the College Football Playoff.

Pruitt has been in his current position at Alabama since the beginning of the 2016 campaign. The Tide was ranked No. 1 in scoring defense last season and remains in the top spot this year.
Sources tell ESPN that Tennessee is in the process of trying to finalize a deal with Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt after offering him the job earlier in the day. Vols also interviewed Auburn DC Kevin Steele and Georgia DC Mel Tucker.
