Angels acquire slugger Justin Upton from Tigers

The Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder Justin Upton from the Detroit Tigers on Thursday as the deadline for players to be available for the postseason wound down.

Upton, 30, is hitting .279 with 28 homers and 94 RBIs this season. He’s a four-time All-Star in 11 seasons with Arizona, Atlanta, San Diego and Detroit.

Upton will give the Angels, who are in the chase for a wild-card spot, a big bat alongside Mike Trout.
