The Bulls will have just one set of combinations when the NBA Draft Lottery takes place on May 15.
That’s because Anthony Davis’ remarkable second half of the season finally came full-circle Monday night, when the Pelicans earned a playoff berth with their blowout win over the Clippers.
Since losing DeMarcus Cousins, who was averaging 25.2 poinst, 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists when he ruptured his Achilles on Jan. 26, the Pelicans have gone 20-13. That’s the ninth best record in the league, and it allowed them to contend for a playoff spot in the ultra-competitive Western Conference; as of Monday night two games separated the third-seeded Blazers and ninth-seeded Nuggets.
But the Pelicans won’t need to sweat out anything on the season’s final day. Though there is still significant seeding to fight for, New Orleans is in after picking up their 47th victory of the season.
It’s truly been a remarkable turnaround for a team that was essentially left for dead when Cousins went down. Thin on depth, especially in the frontcourt, the team dealt for Nikola Mirotic and signed Emeka Okafor to give Davis some help in the frontcourt.
