So now we know: Aaron Boone will be quitting his ESPN Sunday Night Baseball analyst gig to take Joe Girardi’s old job as Yankees manager.
The news broke Friday night about 12 hours after Yankees general manager Brian Cashman announced that the first round of interviews were over, there would be no second round and he was ready to go to owner Hal Steinbrenner with a recommendation.
Later in the day, Carlos Beltran, the sixth and last candidate to interview, told reporters that he was “out of the running” around the time news broke that Rob Thomson, the first to meet with Cashman, had accepted a job as bench coach for new Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler.
