Boston sports radio host: ‘Moron’ Roy Halladay ‘got what he deserved’

Wherever the line is on sports talk radio, Michael Felger crossed it.

During Wednesday afternoon’s edition of the “Felger and Mazz” show on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, Roy Halladay’s accident and death still dominated conversation. While that’s to be expected when an all-time great and future Hall of Famer suddenly dies at the age of 40, how Felger approached the conversation made the show cringe-worthy.

Felger–a host that’s made headlines for bashing men for taking paternity leave when their children are born and accused ex-Red Sox star Jason Varitek of having an affair with a reporter–went after Halladay and showed no remorse.

“This is the kind of death that makes me angry,” Felger said before calling Halladay a “moron” and “jackass” for flying his recreational plane over the Gulf of Mexico for sport.

“It angers me. Someone, who, I don’t know, is so cavalier about life, and just doesn’t appreciate the tenuousness of life, and is willing to screw around with life and death? Especially when you have children, or a family?” Felger said. “That guy’s like the bad guy to me. You’ve got a family! And you’re going to screw around in a little toy plane?”

Felger was then referring to the video that surfaced on Wednesday of witnesses watching Halladay fly recklessly before the deadly crash.
