Giancarlo Stanton belts two homers in Yankees debut, beat Blue Jays

TORONTO – While most of his teammates were relaxing inside the New York Yankees clubhouse Thursday, enjoying the Chicago Cubs-Miami Marlins game on TV, slugger Giancarlo Stanton wasn’t around.

The Yankees were sitting around marveling about Cubs leadoff hitter Ian Happ’s hitting the first pitch of the major-league season for a homer, when someone asked Aaron Judge if he saw it.

When he acknowledged he was watching, someone asked him if he thought he could do the same thing on the first pitch of the season.


He laughed, shrugged his massive shoulders, and said, “I can’t see that happening. Come on. You know how hard that is to do.’’

Stanton wasn’t around for anyone to ask him, and his absence during the media’s availability only added to the question of how he’d be able
