Indians’ Corey Kluber near-unanimous choice for second AL Cy Young Award

As Corey Kluber was getting revved up late in the season, Chris Sale was running out of steam. That made all the difference in the American League Cy Young Award race.

Kluber, one of the pillars of the Cleveland Indians’ record-setting season, picked up his second Cy Young in four years Wednesday when he received 28 of 30 first-place votes for 204 total points in voting conducted by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Sale received two first-place votes for 126 points.

The New York Yankees’ Luis Severino, who went 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA, finished third in the voting with 73 points.

After overcoming a back injury that limited him to one start in May, Kluber went 11-1 with a 1.79 ERA in the second half of the season to secure the award.
