ARLINGTON, Texas — If Jerry Jones keeps his word, Tony Romo won’t see the field any time soon.

Beaming outside the victorious Dallas Cowboys locker room late Monday night after rookie Dak Prescott sparked yet another dominant victory, this one a 42-21 throttling of the Detroit Lions, Jones laid out the apparent quarterbacking plans of his top-seeded NFC East champions.

“We don’t feel like we can gain anything from (Romo) running a few plays or a series of plays or several plays,” Jones, the team owner and general manager, told reporters regarding his longtime starter, who hasn’t played this season.

“It would not be worth the risk.”

His comments came two days after a pair of budding star quarterbacks — Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders and Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans — both broke
