John Elway looks to keep success rolling in NFL 2016 Draft

There have been cross-country flights, thousands of hours of college tape, sunrise-to-sunset days with healthy, debate-filled meetings all in preparation for three days at the end of April.

Broncos general manager John Elway and his team of scouts and personnel executives had a short-lived Super Bowl 50 celebration. There wasn’t much time to relish the work they had done in building a champion. Draft season was on the horizon.

Elway quickly found out there’s no offseason in the front office. That’s perfectly fine with him, too. In a way, mid-February through April is just as exciting as September through early February.

The son of a high school and college coach, Elway spent nearly as much time watching tape as he did playing. He was a star on the field and in business, but as a general manager he still has a deeply ingrained tendency to chop wood with his team rather than just assigning tasks.
