UFC women’s bantamweight champ Miesha Tate (18-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and Amanda Nunes (11-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC)had a tough act to follow against bitter rivals Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, who sucked up most of the oxygen at today’s UFC 200 press conference with another verbal dustup.
But the ladies certainly gave it their best in hyping their upcoming title fight, which is third-billed on the July 9 pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Tate boldly sketched out the plans for her immediate future, stating her first title defense is the preamble to a highly hyped rematch with her biggest rival, former champ Ronda Rousey.
“I told everybody I was going to beat Holly (Holm), and I did, and I’m meant to be here,” Tate said. “I’m going to beat Amanda on the 9th, and I’m going to go on and hopefully after that, we’ll see Ronda in Madison Square Garden. That would be great.”
UFC 205 serves as the industry-leader’s first foray into the Empire State after a nine-year battle to get MMA legalized. The event takes place Nov. 12 at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden.
Tate isn’t the only one stumping to be on the card. Interim titleholder Jones wants to face Anthony Johnson if successful in a rematch against champ Cormier in UFC
