EUGENE — Following the departure of Willie Taggart to Florida State, co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Mario Cristobal was named the Oregon Ducks’ interim head coach.
If Oregon players were to have their way, Cristobal’s title would drop the qualifier.
According to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, “most” of the Oregon Ducks players would like to see Cristobal named the 34th head coach in the program’s history.
Cristobal will coach the Ducks as they prepare to play No. 25 Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 16. According to the source, players would like to see Cristobal remain as head coach following the bowl due to the way he’s conducted himself since arriving in Eugene nearly a year ago.
