Ira in Staten Island, via email: I think there is a chance the Giants take Bradley Chubb at No. 2. I believe the Browns take Josh Allen first overall. And then Sam Darnold falls into the Jets’ lap, like Jamal Adams and Leonard Williams. Thoughts?
I don’t see it happening, but the Jets would obviously love this. I would be surprised if both the Browns and Giants pass on Sam Darnold. He is probably the best quarterback in this draft class. Chubb is a very strong pass rusher, and I suppose the Giants could take him, but it would be dumb, if Darnold is still on the board. The Giants need to get their quarterback of the future. That is more important than replacing Jason Pierre-Paul. If Josh Allen goes first overall to the Browns (which is possible), the Giants could also attempt to trade that No. 2 pick to a quarterback-needy team. Odds aren’t good that Darnold lands with the Jets, but I guess stranger things have happened.
