Patriots watch lead on pack fade as problems pile up

The New England Patriots have lost Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski. And now they are in danger of losing their grasp on a first-round playoff bye.

The Patriots were stunned at home by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, 35-28. It was the Patriots’ second consecutive loss after winning their first 10 games, and they are now tied with the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos, who beat the Patriots last week, at 10-2. The two game losing streak is New England’s first since 2012.

The loss to the Broncos last week was almost understandable – it came in overtime, on the road, in a blizzard, against the NFL’s No. 1 defense and after losing Gronkowski to a knee injury late in the fourth quarter.

Sunday’s loss to the reeling Eagles was far more baffling, even after a furious fourth-quarter rally in which the Patriots cut Philadelphia’s lead from 21 points to seven in the game’s final

Islamic State claims responsibility for Aden assassination

The governor of the Yemeni port city of Aden was killed in a car bomb explosion Sunday, officials said, an attack for which an Islamic State affiliate later claimed responsibility.

At least six bodyguards also were slain in the blast that ripped through a motorcade, taking the life of Maj. Gen. Jaafar Mohammad Saad, according to eyewitness accounts and official reports.

Images distributed on social media by Islamic State showed a white van parked on the side of the road as what was claimed to be Saad’s black-tinted white SUV passed. Two later pictures show a huge explosion. The group, in a statement, warned officials “to prepare for operations that will reap their rotten heads.”

The militants said that Saad and eight companions died in the blast. A local media outlet, Aden Al-Ghad, quoted an unnamed witness saying the car with explosives had rammed into Saad’s motorcade.

The office of Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who installed Saad as governor of Aden in October, issued a statement eulogizing the victim for his achievements in “restoring the security, services and humanitarian situation in Aden.” The statement blamed what it described as the “criminal gangs of the Houthi and Saleh militias” for the attack.

Attorney: Man Killed in Wisconsin Standoff Was Hostage

An attorney says the man killed during a standoff at a motorcycle shop in Wisconsin was a hostage who died while fleeing the gunman.

Milwaukee lawyer Cole J. White, who says he is representing the family, on Sunday identified the dead man as 60-year-old Michael Funk of Neenah. White says he got the identification from state authorities and from Funk’s wife.

Police say officers fired at a man who did not drop a weapon after leaving the building, but that he also may have been shot at from inside the building. Police have not announced the name of the man.

Shots were reported at Eagle Nation Cycles in Neenah Saturday, along with a report that hostages had been taken. A man was taken into custody after hours of negotiations.

Clinton Urges Social-Media Intelligence Sharing in Terror Fight

Hillary Clinton Sunday called for a more aggressive push to combat Islamic State online by curbing its ability to use social media for propaganda and recruitment.

Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, also said that the U.S. should be prepared to use military force if Iran fails to comply with a deal aimed at scuttling its nuclear program.

Meet the women at the forefront of Winnipeg’s fashion scene

The Instagram following of one Winnipeg fashion stylist is 65,000 and counting, and a local clothing designer is striving to represent as many individuals as possible in her collection.

Both young women are at the forefront of fashion in the city, yet their approach to style could not be more different.

Bella McFadden, 20, is known online — and around the world — as Internetgirl, a name she came up with when she was 17.

Internetgirl or Bella McFadden poses in an outfit on her Instagram. The clothes she wear in the photographs are sometimes sold later on her online site, run through an app called depop.

Her followers — many of them eager to buy McFadden’s clothing — are based in Winnipeg, New York, Australia, the U.K. and almost everywhere in between.

“I’m … inspired by 90s and cult films, so I have an edge,” McFadden told CBC’s Terry MacLeod on Sunday, noting her style is influenced by a number of different movies, including Jawbreaker and The Craft.

McFadden’s popular online store is set up through an app called depop, where customers can buy items in just a few clicks.

Most of the clothing is selected by McFadden herself, and she finds a number of the garments in Winnipeg’s thrift stores.

“I go through thrift shops and I raid them,” she said. “I like to find everything from all sections. I wear women’s clothes
