Report: Maurice Hurst won’t work out at NFL combine after being diagnosed with heart condition

INDIANAPOLIS – Maurice Hurst’s NFL career may be on hold … or worse.

The Michigan defensive lineman, widely regarded as a likely first-round pick in April’s NFL draft, will not work out at the scouting combine after being diagnosed with a heart condition, according to an ESPN report. Hurst will undergo further testing according to the report.

A 6-2, 288-pounder, Hurst’s versatility and explosiveness were among the attributes that could make him a value commodity at the pro level if he gets a clean bill of health.

Hurst shares the same name with his father, a defensive back for the New England Patriots from 1989 to 1995.

Hurst Jr. was scheduled to speak to reporters Saturday but has already been sent home, an NFL spokesman told USA TODAY Sports.
