Syracuse, N.Y. — Dino Babers can stop asking. Faith is no longer an issue from the Syracuse University football fan base.
They believe now, Dino, following Syracuse’s epic 27-24 win over No. 2 Clemson at the Carrier Dome on Friday the 13th.
Syracuse’s win over Clemson was the biggest in the Carrier Dome since No. 1 Nebraska went down on Sept 29, 1984. It took another three years for Syracuse to realize its potential following that win with an undefeated season in 1987.
College football fans don’t have that kind of patience in 2017, but Babers just bought himself whatever precious time modern standards allow to keep building the Orange up.
No matter how long Babers coaches here, he gave a new generation of SU fans their own story to tell and signaled that Syracuse football is ready to take a seat back among the big boys in college football.
In the short term, Syracuse will enjoy its day in the sun. Fans and alums will proclaim the Orange is back. Surprise will reign on social media, a place where Syracuse trended on Friday night. ESPN’s College Gameday will remember to talk about the Orange. Babers has now placed one of the biggest feathers in his recruiting cap in being able to say his team knocked off the defending
