PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The tranquil morning that greeted Saturday’s third round of The Players Championship didn’t stand a chance.

Tiger Woods was roaring well before noon.

With his best score in 66 rounds at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Woods awoke the masses and injected some juice into the PGA Tour’s flagship event and into Woods, himself, who finally put the pieces of his game together.

With birdies on eight of the first 12 holes, the former world No. 1 and winner of this event in 2001 and 2013 eventually signed for a 7-under-par 65, one shot better than his previous best score on Pete Dye’s problematic gem.

With control of the ball with every club in his bag and shaping shots throughout the round, Woods hit 11 of 14 fairways
