Tennessee State defensive end Latrelle Lee has been expelled from the school after punching an assistant coach during Saturday’s home game against Southeast Missouri.
The Tennessean posted video of the encounter.
Tennessee State strength coach T.J. Greenstone was hit twice in the head by Lee, a former Dothan High School player.
Lee, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound part-time starter, was kicked off the team by coach Rod Reed and expelled, athletic director Teresa Phillips told The Tennessean.
“We, of course, do not condone any act of violence within our department and are very disturbed by the action of one of our students,” Phillips said in a statement to The Tennessean. “We are committed to supporting the coach who was personally affected and our concern now is with him.”
Per the report, Greenstone is a former Vanderbilt player who oversees all of the school’s athletic programs.
Lee is a senior from Dothan, Alabama, and did not play in Saturday’s 23-20 win.
According to the report, Greenstone was trying to keep players from getting too close to the field.
